Creating the Malawi We Want (Deserve): OUR VISION

Malawi Wathu is a youth-led think tank dedicated to fostering evidence-based research, historical analysis, and forward-thinking policy reviews to address the most pressing issues affecting Malawi’s development.

Guided by a vision to contribute meaningfully to the Malawi 2063 agenda and the implementation of MIP-1 (First 10-Year Implementation Plan), our think tank aims to serve as a hub for innovative ideas and strategic solutions that align with the country’s long-term aspirations.

Rooted in the belief that Malawi’s potential lies in the hands of its people, particularly its youth, Malawi Wathu seeks to amplify the voices of young professionals, academics, and changemakers in shaping a sustainable and prosperous future for the nation. By leveraging research and thought leadership, we aim to provide actionable recommendations that can inform policymakers, government departments, international partners, and other key stakeholders.

Focus Areas:

  • Policy Review and Development: Analysing existing frameworks and providing innovative, data-driven policy recommendations to strengthen governance and foster economic growth.
  • Research and Advocacy: Conducting in-depth studies to address Malawi’s socio-economic challenges, from education and healthcare to agriculture and technology.
  • Youth Engagement and Empowerment: Creating platforms for young Malawians to contribute to national development through collaborative initiatives, mentorship, and capacity-building.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partnering with entities such as the National Planning Commission, the National Youth Council, government institutions, and the international community to align on shared development goals.

Mission: 

To engage Malawian youth in shaping the future of our nation by providing a platform for innovative ideas, critical analysis, and strategic action, focusing on the Malawi 2063 agenda and MIP1.

Objectives:

1. Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth studies on Malawi’s historical, socio-economic, and political landscape to inform policy recommendations.

2. Youth Empowerment: Involve young Malawians in the development discourse, empowering them to be active participants in shaping the nation’s future.

3. Policy Advocacy: Develop and advocate for policies that align with the Malawi 2063 vision and MIP1, ensuring they are grounded in data and reflective of the people’s needs.

4. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with key stakeholders, including government, civil society, academia, and international partners, to ensure a holistic approach to development.

1. Economic Revitalization:

• Analyse sectors with high growth potential such as agriculture, tourism, and energy.

• Develop strategies to enhance trade and industrialization.

• Advocate for improvements in the quality and accessibility of education at all levels.

• Promote STEM and entrepreneurship as tools for youth empowerment.

3. Governance and Leadership:

• Research and recommend policies to enhance transparency, accountability, and good governance.

• Engage youth in governance processes to ensure inclusive decision-making.

4. Sustainability and Climate Action:

• Focus on policies that address environmental conservation and climate resilience.
